    In the vacuum of interesting data, theorists start pursuing aesthetics, and quite a bit of that ends up being tantamount to angels dancing on the head of a pin. “What’s the prettiest math I can come up with that isn’t *completely* ruled out by existing observation? If any new data is a problem, I’ll just fudge my pretty math a bit until it fits again or gets too ugly and starts boring me.”
