  2. “You will not find the words climate change in any [Defence] document or budget submission, instead they talk about adapting to catastrophic weather or sea level rise but they can’t say why it was caused,” Mr Cheney says.“

“the Pentagon has learned how to get climate change adaptation past politicians, by talking about “climate in much the way eighth graders talk about sex — with code words and winks and suggestive language”.

“They know better than to talk about [climate change] directly and forcefully, lest they anger the elected officials who fund their projects and who believe that climate change is not a problem.”

  3. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-05/how-the-pentagon-is-adapting-to-climate-change-in-the-trump-era/11089134?section=business) reduced by 92%. (I’m a bot)

    > Last year, a Pentagon report found over half of the military's bases worldwide would suffer from climate change-related weather extremes, such as drought, flooding and high winds.

    > Within the Pentagon, planning for climate change has technically been in the works for decades.

    > "The effects of a changing climate are a national security issue with potential impacts to Department of Defence missions, operational plans, and installations," the report read. But the Pentagon's assessment runs contrary to the agenda of the Trump administration, which has sought to downplay climate change's threat to global security.

  4. The Pentagons job is generally supposed to be protecting the country from external threats, they have for a while viewed climate change as a threat to America and to global stability.

  5. You mean to tell me the Pentagon doesn’t want to wager the future of the country for a temporary *President who has no clue what he’s talking about? Just like the rest of the world, wait this out. It’ll (hopefully) all be over soon and the sewer rats will crawl their way back out of the picture and into their corners. Just have to let them eat table scraps for a bit.

  6. That’s the best part of the Mueller report for me. It describes a Trump whose subordinates treat him like a toddler, and simply go about their business as if he wasn’t in office. Best, and also kind of fucking scary.

  7. Hilarious if US loses global power when it’s based are under water reducing global presence to it’s own boarders. Then other nations rise and take it’s postion and US will be bullied around, invaded and oppressed.

  8. Good we need less military bases and more schools. The pentagon should get rid of its 200 golf courses and do what it’s supposed to do spend our tax dollars wisely.
