Last year, Maarten van der Weijden tried to do the entire tour swimming, to raise money for cancer research (he him self used to have cancer, fully recovered), but had to abandon his attempt after around 160 kilometers. He managed to raise around 5 million euro with this attempt!

For your information: van der Weijden is a former Olympic champion, winning gold in the men’s 10km open water in 2008 (Beijing Olympics).

This year, he’s at it again, with the same purpose. He started swimming last Friday and is scheduled to reach the finish line this afternoon. The Youtube video is a live broadcast!
