I've been really trying to listen to new music and get into different genres. I'm a Hip Hop head at heart but recently I've been trying to broaden the variety of music I listen to. I've found some genres that really surprised me. So, I'd love to get some album recommendations. Genre doesn't matter to me.

  1. Led Zeppelin II was an amazing album. John Bonham’s work on drums is super powerful. Zeppelin is the most heavily-sampled band for a reason… they had some super strong stuff. Worth giving a listen if you are open to trying different genres.

  2. There is no better way to start than starting at the start. what? what?!

a-never-really-talked-much-about album is ABBA’s Arrival. If you are into a creating music – like I am – then, Arrival is a great lesson in creating an album. Sure, listening to ABBA is not starting at the start. But they did start something, Their career. (tee hee hee)

    Also listen –

The singles collection – the kinks

Born to Die – Lana Del Rey.

  3. When ever I think of a good ‘album’ that’s more current than the general classic rock, I go to Queens of the Stone Age – Songs for the Deaf. It’s an album that was meant to be experienced as an album and listen to start to finish. It’s great to listen to on a long drive.

  4. Mr. Bungle – California (experimental art rock?)

Aesop Rock – Impossible Kid (indie hip hop)

Fiona Apple – When the Pawn… (art/baroque pop)

Between the Buried and Me – Coma Ecliptic (amazing prog metal)

Sage Francis – A Healthy Distrust (indie hip hop)

Avenged Sevenfold – Self Titled (basic metal)

    Battles – Mirrored (math rock)

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – Of Natural History (art rock)

Aesop Rock – None Shall Pass (indie hip hop)

Secret Chiefs 3 – Book of Horizons (instrumental avant-garde weirdness)

Thomas Giles – Modern Noise (rock)

    Ennio Morricone Anthology (soundtracks/scores)

Mr. Bungle – Disco Volante (art rock)

Horse the Band – Desperate Living (video game metal)

    Tool – Aenima (moody rock?)

Alamaailman Vasarat – Vasaraasia (avant-garde prog klezmer metal?)

Beastie Boys – The In Sound from Way Out (compilation of their instrumental jam songs)

The Decemberists – Picaresque (baroque indie rock)

List made by a music lover. Hopefully you can find something good. If there is something you like, I have plenty more recommendations.

    Cheers!
