  1. I’m surprised that they aren’t already prohibited. It is illegal to own exotic pets in California and Nutria/Coypu are an invasive species.

    If you have never heard of them, they are kind of like a beaver except they have the tail of a rat. They are a pest species because they destroy plant life in wetlands.

  2. I’m 90% certain that here is LA you can trap or kill nutria without a license. They tend to burrow into levees and undermine flood protection.

    I’ve also eaten nutria and it was pretty good.

    Which has me thinking that one good way to combat invasive species is to eat them, or at least develop commercial uses for them.
